AAFC-funded network to develop new uses for spuds

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) is providing $5.3 million over three years to fund a BioPotato Network in Atlantic Canada. The Network will focus on commercializing potato extracts, developing healthier varieties, developing pharmaceutical uses for starch, creating a new generation of bioplastics and developing biopesticides for insect control. Potatoes are a $6-billion industry in Canada and value-added products will increase their economic influence. AAFC funding is provided through its Agricultural Bioproducts Innovation Program....
