The Lilwat Nation in interior British Columbia has received $7.2 million in federal funding to replace its existing Tszil Learning Centre for post-secondary education, research, lifelong learning and collaboration. The funding from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada will provide students, professors and researchers with new state-of-the-art facilities to advance research. The investment is described as a “historic down payment on the government’s vision to position Canada as a global centre for innovation” and a strong commitment to Canada’s indigenous communities. The learning centre will serve several First Nations and non-First Nations communities in the Sea to Sky Corridor.
